Our Story

Toadshade Hill is owned by four friends who met on a farm. We dreamed and schemed about owning property together one day, and when we found this little piece of land that dream became a reality. We seek to take care of the land, respect and preserve the history of the cabins, and build community with one another. By visiting us, you become a part of that community and help us in those endeavors! Some of us live on the property full time, and we hope that during your time here you feel just as at home as we do. If you see us out and about-walking the dogs, tending to the chickens, feeding the cats, weeding the garden, or any other variety of tasks-feel free to stop us. We love to get to know our guests!

The Cabins

We purchased this piece of property in 2022. All four cabins that are present on this land were relocated here in the 1990's by the previous owner, Kerry Hix. Kerry saved these cabins, along with hundreds of others, by dismantling, relocating, and restoring them. In many cases, the cabins would have been destroyed by developers. While each cabin has its own history, they are all from the southeastern United States, and are most likely deeply tied to the Cherokee history of the area.

Each cabin has been reconstructed using the timbers and blueprint of its original construction. Modern amenities such as plumbing, electricity and HVAC have been added to all of the cabins, to allow for a more comfortable stay. We take pride in the character of these cabins and are grateful to have the opportunity to look after them. We hope that you, too, will enjoy the rustic and cozy nature of these historical structures.
